The regeneration of Port Glasgow has commenced. Already we can see the considerable physical change at the edge of the town centre - the new Civic Square, revised road layout, the new Tesco superstore, new build housing and the refurbishment of the Ropeworks amongst others.

This is only the beginning, other shop units are planned for the Waterfront retail park, refurbishment of the town centre shopfronts may be undertaken in the near future and other projects are currently on the drawing board.

Much more can be done though, particularly in terms of social regeneration and the time is right in this period of transition to do all we can to change the town for the better.

At the heart of this is the Port Glasgow Regeneration Centre, otherwise known as 7½ John Wood Street, which is operated by the Inverclyde Community Development Trust. The Centre, in partnership with Inverclyde Council, Community Futures and many other agencies is doing all it can to facilitate and implement positive change within the area.

The Centre itself serves as a meeting point for many of the groups involved with the current and proposed plans for Port Glasgow as well as providing a base for many other services and people who would otherwise not be able to operate in the town.

The following report outlines a great many proposals as suggested by the community and we would greatly like to see as many as possible implemented across the town.

It is time to make the Port a better place - to live in, to work in and to see. We should do all we can to make it a viable base for business and industry, to attract tourists and people who would normally just drive though and to provide a safer, healthier, more stable environment for the existing community. It is up to everyone who wants to make the place better to find the time to get involved, in whatever way they deem fit.

Get involved. It’s time for change.

Our Community Futures work is ongoing and this page will be updated in due course with a subsection on the Action Groups which are being set up to further the work in and around the town.
