bizfizz BizFizz offers free and confidential support for people looking to set up new businesses in Port Glasgow. The project is a partnership between 7½ and the New Economics Foundation and it is the first of its kind in Scotland. The New Economics Foundation created BizFizz because they believe in local enterprise and that enterprise should be at the heart of any regeneration programme; without it these programmes will not succeed. Promoting enterprise is a good way to regenerate communities because local businesses: are more likely to employ local people create wealth in the community provide services to improve the quality of life spend money locally (so circulate wealth in the community) help people to achieve their dreams and to become skilled, confident and empowered are a massive symbol of confidence in an area promote community cohesion (people interact with each other when they use each other's businesses) These benefits can be achieved whether the businesses are private or social enterprises which together create a thriving local business community. In any community, however economically disadvantaged, there are people who want to do things or who have a passion (based on an idea, a skill, a hobby or an interest) which they could turn into a business. All they need is a little help; someone to break down the barriers to success. That someone is Lynda Kelly, our BizFizz coach. Lynda will not do the legwork for local entrepreneurs, but will help people discover their own potential AS entrepreneurs. Lynda can be contacted on 01475 806765 or by e-mail lynda.kelly@bizfizz.org.uk ... so get thinking about that business idea |
